Two boys, who share a crib in a New York institution. One is adopted by a childless, doting couple; the other is indentured to hard-luck, hardscrabble farmers. The former is spoiled beyond gratification; the other abused Brothers Forever and physically with heart-aching, backbreaking servitude. Throughout the continuing counterpoint of bare bones versus largesse, the boys stay true to their anthem of being Brothers Forever. The author knows of what he writes. It was a wonderful book, Brothers Forever sad portions but that was how life was in the parish communities. It delves into the deepest parts of its people's hearts and their deep abiding faith in the Catholic Church to help and remedy many perceived ills, told with such intimate detail how this part Brothers Forever the world lived, loved and hopefully learned to grow up. We were not allowed to speak French when I attended my first year of school and many years thereafter, only English. My mother was from a Protestant family in central Louisiana who did not speak French, so we had a dual education. My brother and I continued in the Catholic religion where our two sisters became Protestant. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to any others Craig may have in the future. With Donna, his wife of twenty-eight years, Mayeux enjoys spending time with his two children and three grandchildren. An avid cook, angler, golfer and poker player, Mayeux finds time to volunteer in his community and church. Craig Mayeux is a native Louisianan, but currently lives in Missouri. His roots are still deep in the Louisiana bayou country and he travels back to his home state at every opportunity.
